Fleet Week San Francisco will be October 9-14
Fleet Week will feature both the
U.S. Navy's "Blue Angels" and the Canadian Forces "Snowbirds" in
addition to U.S. Navy ships and "Team Oracle" aerobatics.
The parade will be on Saturday,
October 11, from noon to 1300, followed by the air show, with the
Blue Angels scheduled for 1500. The air show will be repeated on
Sunday, October 12, from 1300-1500, followed by the Blue Angels at
1500 again. There will also be an "Italian Heritage Day" parade on
Sunday from 1230 to 1500.
Note that the dates no longer
conflict with the National Search and Rescue competition scheduled
for October 3-5 in Cape May, New Jersey. So if you were reluctant
to sign up for the District SAR competition (DSAR) because of the
conflict, worry no longer!

Boating Hotline
A recent notice from CHDIRAUX brought to our
attention the discontinued Coast Guard support of the toll-free Boating
Safety Hotline number 1-800-368-5647. This number is widely listed on
some pamphlets and boater education materials, including ABC (Page 50)
and the newly released BS&S (Page 27). Please strike that number from
such materials you have on hand, but continue to promote the
www.uscgboating.org site which still provides boat recall and other
information, and the CG Auxiliary Hotline number 1-877-575-6296.

Wear It
California 2008 Campaign
California Dept. of
Boating and Waterways (Cal Boating) will be conducting the Wear It
California 2008 lifejacket campaign in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
starting next month. Cal Boating has invited AUX 11NR members in the
Delta region to assist with the campaign:
Information sheet
(.pdf file) Schedule
(.xls
file).
Volunteers will receive
for their efforts a "Wear It California" t-shirt for their first shift,
and if you do 15 shifts you get an inflatable lifejacket. In addition
to that, there's a cool ski boat that's involved in the promotion, and
there are opportunities to assist with operating it.

District Search and Rescue Fun June 7th
Now Hear This! All District 11N Boat Crew and
Coxswains could be on the winning team heading to Cape May, New Jersey, next
October for a National Search and Rescue Competition.
Every Division in D11N is entitled to enter a 3-person team in the June 7th
District competition at Coast Guard Island in Alameda. One team will earn
the highest score and the Cape May trip. Second place will be an alternate.
Everyone will have fun. If your Division hasn't selected its team yet, let
your leadership know you are interested--they may just choose you to join
colleagues from all over D11NR for a day of fun and learning as last year's
team puts on a series of events designed to teach and test SAR-related
skills, and ExComm puts on a BBQ lunch for all to enjoy.
Reimbursable orders will be issued for your Division team to come to
Alameda, including travel, meals and lodging, if required. The October Cape
May team will travel under orders as well. If you can't find three people
from your Division for June 7th, contact the DSO-OP,
Gail Ramsey
and she may be able to hook
you up for a cross-Division team.
For more details, contact Team Leader
Steve Salmon,
RCO for Operations and Marine Safety. Come join the fun and hone your
boating and SAR skills.

Past Captains Fair is a Grand Success
Coast Guard Island hosted two hundred
and fifty USCG Auxiliary members, including twenty five
members attending a National Public Affairs “C” School as
part of for the Past Captains Training Fair February 16 &
17.
The use of Gresham Hall for
registration, the District Store, snacks/fluids and Boat
Show demonstration booth, worked extremely well and will be
incorporated in future PCA Training Fairs. Gresham Hall
became a natural meeting and gathering spot for all
attendees.

"Tall Ships" from all over the world - FESTIVAL OF SAIL

Including the U.S. Coast Guard barque "Eagle,"
tall ships will be visiting San Francisco Bay from July 23rd
to July 27th. The event is called the "Festival of Sail."
Sector San Francisco's Waterways Management Division is
looking for Auxiliarists to help with several tasks
connected with the Festival of Sail. If you would like to
volunteer for one of the positions detailed below, please
let me know and I will forward your name. Please include a
contact telephone number.[email]
Like the great Cape Horn square-riggers built during
the first three decades of the 20th Century - the twilight
era of sail - the Eagle is constructed of modern materials.
The Eagle has a steel hull four-tenths of an inch thick, two
full-length steel decks with a platform deck below and a
raised forecastle and quarterdeck. Its weather decks are
made of three-inch-thick teak over steel. The Eagle
eagerly takes to the element for which it was designed,
effortlessly and gracefully driving under full sail in the
open ocean at speeds up to 17 knots.

Blockage Advisory
Some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) bock our
messages needed by members. If members report our messages as
spam, it causes all messages to be blocked with our e-mail extension

Unfortunately,
when an ISP blocks us, it may take several days to get them to unblock
